Post-Trauma:
Don’t Just Survive - THRIVE

“any disturbing experience that results in significant fear, helplessness, dissociation, confusion, or other disruptive feelings intense enough to have a long-lasting negative effect on a person’s attitudes, behavior, and other aspects of functioning”- The American Psychological Association (APA) description of trauma.
When someone feels threatened, their fight, flight, or freeze response kicks in, making everything around them seem chaotic. This reaction can cause a person to lose faith in the safety and stability of their environment. As a result, they may cling to their fear, feeling vulnerable and unprotected all the time.
Trauma can deeply affect a person, leaving lasting scars that are hard to shake off. Some theories suggest that our bodies hold onto trauma, which can lead to energy blockages.
Tantric healing focuses on removing these blockages, allowing energy to flow freely throughout the body. This method of healing connects with the spiritual side of a person, setting it apart from traditional healing techniques.
Tantric healing is often associated with tantric massage, but there are also self-help methods you can try. In tantra, sexual energy is considered very powerful and can be used for healing, yet many people are unaware of how to tap into this energy for their own advantage. Tantra encourages individuals to feel this sacred energy throughout their entire body rather than just in the genitals. By clearing the energetic pathways through tantric practices, this sexual energy can begin to rise and flow throughout the body.
Tantra encourages a sense of completeness and divinity in all aspects of life, helping
people experience spiritual awakening. Healing occurs when individuals regain their sense of safety and let go of the protective barriers they have built around themselves:
- Trauma can get stuck in the body, but tantra uses methods like safe touch and body massage to help release it.
- People with trauma often struggle with strong emotions and negative beliefs, but tantra teaches them to manage their feelings and think more positively.
- Trauma can make survivors feel lost or disconnected, and tantra helps them feel whole
again.

Tools and techniques of tantric trauma work*:

SAFETY AND TRUST
In tantric healing, the key idea is to create a sense of safety. People who have experienced trauma often feel unsafe in their own bodies, so regaining that feeling is a huge step forward. Tantra helps us view our bodies as safe spaces where we can feel proud and secure, rather than as places filled with shame and painful memories. It's essential to remember that we are the only ones who truly own our bodies, and being aware of that is very important.

AVOID RE-TRAUMATIZATION
When someone remembers a traumatic event, it can bring back painful feelings, so it's crucial to steer clear of discussions that make them feel scared or powerless. Everyone heals at their own speed and has a different path to follow, so it's important not to push them too hard. Healing isn't a straight line, and the aim is to help them discover their own way using the tools that tantra offers.

BREATH
Breathing is a powerful way to help heal and let go of energy blockages. Many people use breathing techniques to deal with emotional problems and improve their mental health, whether in traditional therapy or alternative methods.

SOUND
Trauma can make someone feel powerless and unable to express themselves. To help with this, trauma specialists encourage people to use their voices and let go of the emotions they've been holding back. One way they do this is by making sounds while breathing out, which helps them connect with their breath and release those trapped feelings.

EMOTIONAL EXPRESSION
Accepting your feelings and experiencing them as they come can help you relax and reduce muscle tension. If you try to ignore or push away your emotions, they can end up feeling stronger than they really are. These feelings can get stuck in your body and cause problems. Tantra therapists can provide you with techniques to handle and express your emotions without feeling overwhelmed. When feelings related to past trauma come up, the therapist helps you recognize and let go of them. When your body is ready to release, the therapist will guide you through the process.

SELF CARE
Trauma survivors often forget to take care of themselves because they feel so many strong emotions. Tantra encourages people to focus on self-care and spend time on themselves every day. This can include activities like grounding, meditation, exercise, and breathing exercises. These practices help create a healthier lifestyle and establish a routine of caring for oneself regularly.

CONNECTION
Trauma can make you feel disconnected from your emotions, body, and the people around you, leaving you feeling alone and confused. Tantra offers a way to strengthen that connection, helping you feel more in tune with yourself, your body, others, and the universe. It teaches that everything is interconnected and part of something greater, which can inspire feelings of hope, meaning, and purpose in your life.

BODY RECONNECTION
After experiencing trauma, some people may feel disconnected from their bodies, and certain areas might feel numb. Tantra is a practice that helps individuals reconnect with their bodies and heal from these experiences by focusing on sensations. Our bodies send us messages through feelings and physical responses, which help us understand both our environment and our emotions. By paying attention to these sensations, we can make better choices and find a solid foundation for our well-being.

MOVEMENT
Trauma can make us feel stuck, both in our bodies and our energy. When we can't move, we lose our vitality. Tantra, a practice that encourages movement, includes techniques like shaking. Shaking helps release trapped energy, allowing it to flow freely and remove any blockages in our bodies.

DISSOLVE RESISTANCE
Trauma can cause energy blockages in your body, which act like a protective shield. This can make you feel stiff􀆯 and less sensitive. To help free up the blockages, pressure techniques are used on various areas of the body.

Research indicates that following a traumatic experience, many individuals can actually experience positive transformations in their lives, a phenomenon referred to as Post Traumatic Growth (PTG). This growth can manifest in several significant ways, including enhanced relationships with others, a newfound sense of personal strength, a shift in life
priorities, a deeper appreciation for the beauty of life, and even spiritual development.
Engaging in tantric practices can be particularly beneficial for those seeking to reshape their narratives and foster personal transformation. These healing techniques allow individuals to release their emotional burdens, enabling them to emerge from their struggles with renewed strength and a clearer sense of meaning and purpose in their lives.
Through this journey, they can discover not only resilience but also a richer understanding of themselves and their place in the world.
